Two Abcalert Neos who attended, half brothers, known as Max and Ardy big bro seems to be telling little bro what is the 'go' here!
Training for Pro Sports in Brisbane, 2008 is of course now over.
If you intend to compete in Pro Sports, or even if you just own a dog, first things first, do plenty of socialising THEN PLENTY of obedience and do get help, you can enrol in classes with professional people and once all that goes well if you have further interest in going on to Sports of any kind you can make arrangements with a trainer to do so. I can recommend the methods used by these trainers, there are others out there some good some not, it is very important to find the right trainer, anyone using ALL positive or too ALL negative corrections is not likely to get the best result a balanced mixture is the way to go with these alpha type dogs.
PRO SPORTS 2007.
What a great weekend we all had at the training seminar and second Pro Sports meeting held at Woodford show grounds on the weekend starting on the Friday the 12th of Ocober 07.
Butch Cappel once again flew out from Texas USA to be there, and we were very pleased to also meet and welcome Brisbane trainers Craig A Murray and his wife, I would hope these two very capable people will get involved with the group of people form around their area who attended and who would also like to see this great sport take off. And if the Japanese Students who could only come for day one, liked what they saw, who knows, we might wind up with an event in Japan!!
All who came went home with very improved dogs and the building blocks of training skills to do even better in coming weeks, Butch once again took several semi obedience trained dogs and got them going so well that not only could they compete in the competitions by the third day, but even win places!! with more training these dogs will be as good as any to be found anywhere you want to look, of htis I have no doubts at all!
We saw some very unusual dogs in the Dutch Shepherds bought long by CK9-SAS and Rodga's Central Asian Shepherds, whilst protection away from home is not much to the Central Asians interest, they are quite stunning looking dogs and are VERY territorial and need no encouragment to guard their own area.
The Dutchies were great, very much into protection and very fast, agile dogs who would be as alert and ready to fire after an all night patrol at their handlers side as when they started, and no doubt that had a lot to do with why their owners have them as they work with them in the protection business.
Two Abcalert Neapolitan Mastiffs went away as placegetters in Pro Sports, I am told they are the only ones in the WORLD to even compete!! I am proud to have bred both of these young dogs although I no longer own them.
For those who came all the way from NSW both to judge, help with training input and even to entertain with yarns of the highest quality, or just to compete, a big thank you. If you live within Coooeee of Tamworth you are on the doorstep of a great trainer, if your dog is not up to scratch, don't make excuses, contact the man and find out about getting some proper training.
Pro Sports is NOT just about protection work, great emphasis is placed on obedience, without which no dog is as safe as he can be, we hope to hold training days when it can be arranged to concentrate on this aspect of our dog's training, without good obedience no dog can win at competitions.
